Planning Permission Granted/
Eden Road
Planning permission has been granted for the substantial remodeling of 3 Eden Road, Tunbridge Wells. The proposals will integrate 17th and 18th century elements of the existing house with a new two storey frontage to provide a detached luxury five bedroom dwelling with an underground double garage linked to the existing cellar.

School Opens To A Song/
Lordswood Primary School
The children of Lordswood Primary School were so delighted with their ‘new look’ school that they wrote a song to celebrate. This coincided with the official opening by The Mayor of Medway, Cllr Ted Baker on 17 January 2012.
HMY were involved in the careful remodelling of the school to bring together the previously separate Infant and Junior Schools. The school now runs as a much more cohesive environment with a more open plan approach to learning.

HMY Win Workplace Nursery Bid/
Cisco Systems Bedfont Lakes
HMY have been commissioned through a competitive design bid process to design a new Workplace Nursery childcare facility for Cisco Systems at their Bedfont Lakes business park. A planning application is due to be submitted in March 2012.

Sea Gem Wins Garden Design Award/
HMY are pleased to announce that Sea Gem House, Camber, East Sussex has been awarded The Best Rural Garden Award in the New Homes and Gardens Awards 2011, sponsored by The Express Newspapers and Ecocatalyst, promoters of sustainability and self build.
Jo Thompson has designed a dune garden featuring a sunken fire pit and seating area that takes inspiration from the curves of the building and its setting. Materials used in the construction of the house are allowed to feed gently into the dunes which merge into the surrounding natural landscape.

HMY Commits To A More Sustainable Future/
Recognising our commitment to sustainability, HMY has been awarded STEM: Blue level by the South East Carbon Hub. This is a further step in our goal to manage our carbon footprint and to use resources wisely.
In addition, one of our staff members has participated in the Energy Saving Trust's Smarter Driving Programme and the information gained from this has been passed on to everyone at HMY.
We have also received CHAS & Constructionline accreditation in recognition of our Health & Safety and Quality management.

Dolce Vita Restaurant, University Of Kent/
With the expansion of Keynes College residences, the University of Kent appointed HMY to design a new extension to its existing restaurant. With a brief to expand to double the number of covers within the summer vacation, the resulting simple rendered form relates to the views and creates a tranquil external terrace shaded by mature trees overlooking the water.
Alterations and extensions were also made to the existing kitchen to improve internal flows and increase equipment.

Ingfield Manor School/
HMY have recently completed a new building for SCOPE at Ingfield Manor School near Horsham. Ingfield Manor School is acknowledged as one of the leading centres for Conductive Education in the UK. It has a national reputation for the development of communication work with disabled children with cerebral palsy.
This project is to provide accommodation for a new service to 16-25 year old students. Working closely with the management team and their staff, HMY have provided facilities which have their own identify within the school and encourage more independence.
Alan Setchell, School Manager, is “very pleased indeed with the scheme as are all colleagues so... The building is well designed to meet our exacting brief, and has been delivered to a high standard”.

Gordon Young Meets Prince Andrew/
Whitgift School, in South Croydon hosted a lunch in honour of their patron, HRH Prince Andrew, to which Gordon Young was invited to attend and present the proposals for the new boarding house.
This is a new venture for the school having previously accommodated only a handful of overseas students in a small house on the campus.
The new 140-student house has been designed to reflect the grandeur of the main school and to respond to the very heavily wooded, yet visually prominent site.

New House Camber Sands/
Scaffold Down
The scaffold has now been taken down to reveal the white form of ‘Sea Gem', the new house at Camber. Work is progressing towards completion in the next few weeks with the landscape works being completed by September.
The house has been designed to maximise the views towards the sea and Fairlight headland on the horizon. With the huge windows now clear these are looking stunning, particularly from the first floor.

A Good Night
Steve and James recently hosted a table at The Grand Hotel in Brighton for the 2011 RICS Awards Ceremony and Dinner.
Having been shortlisted with two projects this year, in the Sustainability and Community Building categories, the guests and hosts enjoyed a great evening.
