Frances Bardsley School Visual Arts Centre/

Following a successful bid to become a Specialist Visual Arts College, Frances Bardsley School received a grant for a new Visual Arts Centre to be available both to the school and the local community. The grant, however, did not match the cost of the Art Centre if it were to be procured by traditional methods.

HMY therefore liaised with David Madgwick of Framework CDM to construct a building using offsite prefabrication with a hybrid form of ‘design and build’ contract, and a guaranteed maximum price.

With a striking exterior and light airy interior the gallery and workshop building link backs to the existing school, (in particular the Art Department), with dedicated office and toilet facilities. The centre is now capable of being used both as a school facility and totally independently for community use.
